With a height of 3,417 meters above sea level, Mount Hanang is Tanzania’s third-highest peak after Kilimanjaro and the Meru Mountains. Tranquil Kilimanjaro organizes several trekking treks there. This peak is located inside the central Tanzanian government nature reserve known as Mount Hanang Nature Forest Reserve (MHNFR), which has a total area of 5,871 hectares and a length of 35.676 kilometers. The nature reserve is located in the Manyara region’s Hanang District, around 4 kilometers north of Katesh Township, the district’s administrative hub, and about 240 kilometers from Arusha City.
Day 1: Mount Hanang (L, D) On the first day of this 2 day, Mount Hanang expedition begins with a drive from Arusha to Katesh, which is in the Manyara area and is home to Mount Hanang, in the morning.
There are two significant ethnic groups—the Iraqw and the Barbaig—who live in the region around Mount Hanang and engage in farming there. Both tribes are rich in tradition, and the Barbaig ladies are frequently spotted wearing skirts made of goatskin, while the males wear black clothing and wield spears. The Iraqi people frequently appear dressed in vibrant kangas. With more than 400 kinds of birds reported, it is a great location for bird viewing as well.
Mount Hanang, at 3,420 meters, is Tanzania’s fourth-highest mountain and provides breathtaking views of the Rift Valley. You will start your ascent of Mount Hanang after lunch, where you will spend the night.
Overnight: Camping at Mount Hanang
